WHAT ARE LAYER ZEROS
Layer zero’s are basically core infrastructures that enable blockchains to be built on them.
It is like the road that enables blockchains to function.
Layer zero’s can provide the mechanisms and tools for building blockchains and allows ease of interoperability between the different chains.
An example is Polkadot, which has a technology called substrate that enables developers to build multiple blockchains(parachains) on it.
All these blockchains built on it can have the added advantage of choosing their own distinct features(governance, currency) for their specific use cases.
WHY WOULD YOU NEED A LAYER ZERO
- Basically for interoperability between its different chains.
- Layer zero’s aim to create the infrastructure for blockchains to be built on top of them.
- ‘Making it easier to build more blockchains’ solves the problem of having just one blockchain that is specialized to just one use case(bitcoin) or a single blockchain that strives to do everything(ethereum).
- An efficient layer zero will enable interoperability between the multiple chains built on the layer zero.
- Apps built on one of the chains can easily run on(interoperate with) the other chains.
HOW TO BUILD ON A LAYER ZERO
Projects like Polkadot, Cosmos are building technology that makes these possible. Leveraging their infrastructure, you can build applications that work on different blockchains; right out of the box.
